When you run the game you can reach the main menu fine, but when you try to play it gives you a black screen?

I recorded video showing issue. Sound works fine just not recorded.

Your graphics drivers may be out of date, as that issue shows up with older drivers. Try using this tool to see if there are newer drivers available for your graphics chipset:
http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect
over 1 year #5
Tool scan results:
Graphics Driver:
Product Detected: IntelĀ® Processor Graphics 3000
Current Driver Installed: 8.15.10.2509
Your driver is current.
Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility (Chipset INF)
Product Detected: IntelĀ® HM65 Express Chipset Family
Current Version Installed: 9.2.0.1019
This version is valid.
Graphics driver is up to date. Maybe Intel HD Graphics just not capable to handle MDK2 HD?

That seems like it could be the case. Contact us via email and we'll set up a refund for you.

you're telling me the game I've been waiting the better part of a year to come out, the whole reason I signed up to Beamdog in the first place, won't even run on my machine?!
jeez, I thought it might not run perfectly, but I at least thought there would be options to run at reduced settings or something.
well, that's a year of waiting down the drain. Brilliant.

The problem is that Intel doesn't offer support for OpenGL 3 on those chipsets, which is unfortunate.

I'm having exactly the same problem, I have the Asus N53s with the Intel HD graphics AND the Nvidia GeForce 540M, and still cant get it to work. I've tried setting the program to use the Nvidia card, and still no luck. Any suggestions?

Any response to this? Or should I get a refund too?

Hi
I had the same issue - only black screens and seeing some text but no graphics.
I found a workaround - once I turned off crossfire in the catalyst control centre - the game ran fine. Philip - can you please fix it to work for those that have an ATI crossfire setup?
I have windows 7 64 bit, with the latest catalyst drivers for my 2 x radeon hd 5850's.
If you want me to test a patch please let me know.
over 1 year #12
For the crossfire setup, does it use drivers that are different from regular catalyst drivers?
over 1 year #13
Okay, I'm having this same problem, and the game was working fine for me a couple weeks ago... well, kinda.
At first, the game just wouldn't launch. Update fixed that, but then there were in-game issues. Music wouldn't play at times (which made it unplayable, to me), as well as some visual bugs. But I could play it. But now this...
ATI Radeon 5970, Intel i7, drivers up-to-date. Maybe a new driver giving me this problem? I dunno... As I said, I was able to play it before.
Please, advice?

When did you grab the new driver, and do you know what revision it is?
over 1 year #15
I'm not exactly sure, but it was not too long before this problem surfaced. I'd say about a week or two. Says driver version 8.911.0.0. Got it from the Catalyst Control Center, as I always do.
Wondering if I should roll back to my previous driver, or would any additional information be helpful before doing this?
over 1 year #16
Same issue here with the black screen and only some text visible.
I have two Radeon HD5870 video cards in Crossfire, but I tried disabling Crossfire for the game via RadeonPro and it still had the same issue.
I have the latest 11.11 drivers and am not sure what to try in order to get the game working for me.
over 1 year #17
Try rolling back to a previous version. If that fixes it, we'll know for sure it's the drivers and not some other software.
Ben - if you disable Crossfire does it work?
over 1 year #18
It's strange (eg. never experienced this before):
Using RadeonPro to disable Crossfire just for this game doesn't fix the issue, but going into CCC and turning off Crossfire altogether (for all games) does fix the issue.
I'm not sure why this is--disabling Crossfire in RadeonPro for the game should have the same effect as Crossfire being turned off, and turning Crossfire off entirely isn't a good option for me because I use it in most of my games.
Are you guys looking into the Crossfire issue currently?
over 1 year #19
Rolled back to previous driver, works fine now.
over 1 year #20
We are looking into the Crossfire issue right now. Mindtaker - what exact revision of the driver is it that worked for you? We've got AMD guys working on this right now, and they need as much info as they can get.
over 1 year #21
Okay, this is kinda strange, and a bit confusing, but I hope it helps anyway.
There was a recent upgrade from Catalyst 11.11 to 11.12. Upon getting this software upgrade, driver went from version 8.911.0.0 to 8.920.0.0. Tried running MDK2HD under this driver, but I had the same issue. So I rolled back to 8.911.0.0, and even though this was the driver version giving me the problem earlier, it now works.
So to recap, 8.911.0.0 didn't work, rolled back to that SAME DRIVER after an update, and now I can play... huh?
Sorry if this isn't as straightforward a response as you were hoping. I'm at a loss myself. Good luck getting everything fixed, man.

Okay, I know I just posted, and everything I said was 100% accurate. I was playing up until world 8 last night. But just now, I started the game and the same black screen problem arose... I don't know whats going on here.
A windows update interrupted me mid-game, and I just left my computer off. Then I came here, replied, and tried to fire up MDK, and now this again.

Can you try loading a slightly earlier save?
over 1 year #24
Unfortunately, there's no earlier save to load. Was pretty happy to actually get a chance to play, so I got quite a lot done in one sitting. Thus, saves were overwritten.
Look, I understand you guys are busy working on this and a number of other things, and that me complaining ain't gonna be much help (and I truly appreciate the open dialogue you guys have). But I gotta ask: is there any actual progress being made here? Do you guys think you've found the cause of this issue? Anything you can tell me to reassure the thought that I'll be able to enjoy my purchase sometime soon?
I don't mean to sound so irritated, but I kinda am. It's been a while now, man. I just want my MDK. I loves playin' it.
over 1 year #25
We've had to put the work on MDK2 HD on hold. We fought with it and were not making any more progress. We've raised the driver issues with ATI and they've done some exploration, but for whatever reason the problem seems to have re-appeared.
Sorry,
-Trent

Hi all
I've got the same problem: black screen. I've just bought the game, I'm running with Geforce GT 320.Driver 8.16.11.9103 . Any chance for playing?

Hi
I just bought the game and have the same problem. Running on nVidia GT 555M, dirver version 280.26. Have a black screen with cursor and that's it. Any news on the issue?
Thanks

You let me down, Beamdog.
Steam will have this game in a couple weeks.
Goodbye, and best of luck.

If you're running a intel hd laptop with an nvidia card, you just have to launch the game with the card otherwise it automatically runs in the intel chipset, had the problem and this solved it.
