Thanks, it works perfectly. This patch makes the Beamdog version of The Precursors the definitive english release in my eyes. This pack along with the unofficial Patch by Wesp5 make this game go from great to fantastic.

This fan improvement pack isn't really 7.6 GB is it?
That would be re-downloading the entire game !
I've been holding off downloading the precursors until my monthly internet plan changes over in a few weeks. I hope the precursors isn't a 14 GB download !

Hello,
it just downloads the additional files (1.4 GB).

So the unofficial patch by Wesp5 - I'm a little unclear on the changes in it, since The Precursors has been patched apparently they incorporated some fan improvements that render his patch unnecessary? Or has he updated it since then with more improvements? The whole thread seems to go back and forth on the issue and I didn't see a straight answer.

Wesp5's patch fixes bugs and inconsistencies in the game data, and also includes a fix for flickering on ATI cards. The changelog for the latest version (v1.3) is here: http://forum.dlh.net/thread;threadid__35502.html
Note that it is more recent than the official Russian v1.1 patch for the game.

Actually I believe you're right Phillip, the latest english release patch apparently incorporates the whole unofficial patch 1.3, or at least some aspects of it. I cannot confirm this, though.

Hello,
i miss the postprocess fix in this improvement pack. ATI owners will get serious flickering without it. It should be included.

The Precursors Fan Improvement Pack has been updated with the postprocess fix.

I can confirm that at the moment the official The Precursors patch included in the version here is already based on the Unofficial Patch 1.3, but I plan to continue fixing issues with upcoming releases...

Thanks for the information! I'll keep an eye out for your future changes.

So if I'm downloading the game for the first time do I just download the improvement pack or do I download the game first then the pack?

Hi Maxnormal,
Both ways work!
Cheers!

Awesome - thank you for your quick reply. I wanted to be sure that I didn't stuff up the setup routine as I really don't want to download the game twice.

Very impressed with this effort and the quick turnaround with responses here. Signed up when I saw the Improvement Pack show up, and purchased after I read this thread and saw the level of responsiveness. Keep up the great work!
Edit: actually, I still have the ATI stutter. The way I installed this was to download and install the "improvement" pack only from my list in Beamdog. Was that the right way to do this?

Maybe I'll put this into its own post for bumpage. :)

I think so but I'd like to know as well. I messed up my installation by installing the game, then the unofficial patch (unneeded apparently) THEN the improvement pack.
So I've uninstalled and am going to install again. I think it's fine to just install the improvement pack... seeing as it should download the whole game plus itself.
Anyway I'm not actually sure if I'll be reinstalling. It's nothing to do with the site, but if you say that you still have that ATI stutter... perhaps We're Boned, to quote a knowledgeable robot.

Wesp5's Unofficial Patch was at v1.5 when I last checked, in August. Should I download it in addition to this package?
Also, are the Unofficial Patches cumulative (i.e. will I need to download v1.4 and install that first)?

^ I'd love to know this as well. Do I just 1) Buy the game and 2) download this fan improvement pack and install? Or do I do that, and then download and install Wesp5's latest (.5)over it as well? Though, 1.5 does say beta so perhaps that's why it's not included?
Let a space trader know what's up. Thanks.

I installed the Unofficial Patch v1.5, and it didn't seem to do any harm. It mentions in the patch notes an ATi flicker fix, which affects me since I use an AMD/ATi card. It also looks like it eliminated the lag for surface texture rendering (something that Unreal Engine 3 games are notorious for, but does this game use UE3?), but the notes readme also include lines for the graphics renderer .ini file for fixing it manually.
I'm concerned that the different versions of the patch may NOT be cumulative, since the notes for 1.3 mention "English cutscene voiceovers", and the filesize of the 1.5 patch is a little short for lots of sound files (52MB), unless of course there's some compression technique I'm not aware of, or there just aren't a lot of 'English cutscenes'. Wesp5 has done a stellar job on previous Unofficial Patch series, so I wouldn't expect him to cop out here.
My last concern is that the "Anti-aliasing" setting in the game's options menu won't keep. I'll set it to anything but "No" (instead of "Off", apparently), and click Apply, but when I come back to it, whether or not I exit the game first, it goes back to "No". I can force Anti-aliasing with the Catalyst Control Panel, but it still bugs me.
{EDIT}
I asked the guys over at Patches Scrolls about it, and they say it's cumulative, and they haven't received any reports about problems with the 1.5 beta patch, so it's good to go.
